As one of the oldest human inventions, pottery dates back to at least 29,000 BC. When you would like to try this centuries-old art form, several local schools can help you make everything from unique bowls to ornate vases. The schools offering pottery classes near our high-rise apartments in Dallas include:
Creative Arts Center of Dallas
The Creative Arts Center of Dallas began welcoming budding artists in 1966. Today, the campus spans two acres, and the center is one of North Texas’ top adult art education destinations. One of the many classes includes the Art of Ceramics, for example. A popular offering, it helps beginners discover wheel throwing and basic ceramic and hand-building techniques.
The Craft Guild
A non-profit organization, The Craft Guild opened in 1948. It has a long history of offering quality classes in a wide range of mediums. The guild’s craft studio welcomes all abilities. Students learn the entire process from raw materials to firing in raku kilns. Upcoming fall classes include Hand-building and Throwing. Classes are led by skilled instructors and encourage learning and creativity.
Boasting 10 pottery wheels, Quiggly’s Clayhouse enjoys helping students create with their hands. Classes run 30 or 60 minutes, and the instructors will help you learn the ins and outs of the pottery wheel. Call to schedule one to two weeks in advance. After gaining some skills, you can also try Quiggly’s Pottery Wheel on a Whim session. You can drop by any time and enjoy 90 minutes of pottery fun. The price includes six pounds of clay and bisque firing for each piece you create.
For another learning opportunity besides pottery classes, try learning a new language at a Dallas school. You can learn Spanish, French, and more.
